Jafri Khalil is an expert in Islamic economic law who earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2000, a Master of Comparative Laws (MCL) from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 1994, and a Diploma in Islamic Finance from IPI ABIM Malaysia in 1993.

He began his career as a lecturer at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia from 1994 to 2000. He later served as a consultant for the conversion of Mubarakah Takaful Insurance from a conventional system to a Sharia-compliant system in 2001, and subsequently became the President Director of the company from 2001 to 2009. He currently serves as the President Commissioner and Owner of Zakirah Group.

Jafri Khalil is the founder and legal consultant of LBHI As-Sakinah and the Legal Clinic at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. In addition, he lectures in the Islamic Finance graduate program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta. He is also a member of the drafting team for the academic manuscript of the Sharia Banking Bill initiated by Bank Indonesia
